PTA, NBC News, and GreatSchools Announce Education Nation Scorecard

Education Nation Scorecard

National PTA® has partnered with NBC News, GreatSchools, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and other organizations to create the Education Nation Scorecard.  The tool provides useful and clear information about performance at individual schools, districts, states, and for the nation as a whole.

Parents can use the tool to look up their child's school and to see how it is doing compared to schools in the community, district, state, and nation. Parents can also use it to view graduation rates, NAEP (National Assessment of Educational Progress) scores, and to see if your state has adopted the Common Core State Standards, among other things.

More importantly, parents can use this information to have conversations with their child's teacher to find out how they can support their child's education. They can find a list of questions on the scorecard under "What Can I Do?" to help start the conversation with your child's teacher or principal.

Watch National PTA CEO Byron V. Garrett's appearance on the "Today Show" as he and Vicki L. Phillips, Education Director of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, explain how the Education Nation Scorecard works.

About National PTA's Partnership with Education Nation
National PTA® is proud to support NBC News on an exciting, unprecedented week-long event to examine and redefine education in America. Education Nation is occurring now during the week of September 26, and will feature a nationally broadcast, in-depth conversation about improving education in the United States.

National PTA is partnering with Education Nation to help shine a spotlight on the important role that families can play in supporting their child's education. The research is overwhelmingly clear: when parents play a positive role in their children's education, students do better in school. When parents are involved, students have better test scores and higher grades; attend school and pass their classes; and graduate from high school and attend college.
